High Plains Heritage Foundation Job Description and Application Process
The Executive Director is responsible for the planning, operation, administration, and expansion of activities of the High Plains Heritage Foundation, a community foundation serving Southwest Kansas and the Oklahoma Panhandle. In this capacity, the Executive Director will provide professional leadership and assistance to the Board of Directors in making the Community Foundation an effective, viable organization. The Executive Director will act in an advisory capacity to the Board and all committees regarding projects of the Community Foundation.
The Executive Director will uphold the highest standards of integrity and community responsibility in both professional and personal conduct.
Administrative Responsibilities
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall administrative operations of the Community Foundation and is responsible for the following functions of the Community Foundation:
The Executive Director will work with the Chair of the Board to provide appropriate leadership and support for all functions of the board including:
The Executive Director will represent the Community Foundation in the community and will be a visible representative for both development and community program functions. The Executive Director will actively seek to participate in community-level projects and to develop professional relationships with government officials, other non-profit organization staff, and business and civic leaders. The Executive Director will continue the community leadership and development initiatives, including nonprofit capacity building, currently within the scope of the Community Foundation’s remit and the remit of external grants awarded. Within the scope of policies and priorities developed by the Board, the Executive Director will create awareness of the Community Foundation among other community organizations. Based on this community experience, the Executive Director will make recommendations to the Board on appropriate leadership roles for the Community Foundation to assume.
Qualifications
This is a part-time, exempt position (30 hours/week) with a salary commensurate with experience. There are limited benefits, but they include generous paid time off and flexible schedule. Position may require occasional in-state travel.

Administrative Responsibilities
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall administrative operations of the Community Foundation and is responsible for the following functions of the Community Foundation:
- Development of additional assets and donors, maintaining relations with existing donors, and developing new relationships with potential donors.
- Development and administration of community programs and grants that appropriately fulfill the policies of the Community Foundation and the intentions of donors.
- Management of funds in keeping with the policies established by the trustees and the intentions of donors.
- Liaise with financial advisors to ensure investment of funds according to policies and procedures adopted by the Board.
- Accounting and reporting of all financial, investment, contributions, grant-making, and administrative expenses.
- Preparation of board materials, including all information needed by the Board for each meeting, the distribution of materials to each board member at least one week prior to every meeting, and supervision of all necessary arrangements to insure efficient and comfortable meetings of the Board.
- Attendance at Board meetings in an ex officio capacity, serving as a consultant. Maintains minutes of Board meetings.
- Regular outgoing communication with the community and donors regarding Community Foundation activities.
- Applying for relevant grant or asset building opportunities for the Community Foundation.
- Providing overview of current grants, including budget, implementation and reporting requirements.
- Establish and maintain Community Foundation presence on all appropriate Social Media platforms.
- Modelling professional standards and ethics in accordance with HPHF philosophy.
- Supervising assigned staff in accordance with HPHF personnel practices, including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, guidance, etc.
- The Executive Director will report directly to the Chair of the Board.
The Executive Director will work with the Chair of the Board to provide appropriate leadership and support for all functions of the board including:
- Appropriate functioning of all board committees, including identifying and recruiting appropriate volunteer participation.
- Development and implementation of board policies.
- Monitoring and recommendation of all board actions and policies to comply with legal and regulatory requirements for non-profit public charities.
- Maintain and administer calendar of regulatory filings and ensure compliance with all deadlines and requirements.
- Planning for both organizational and functional needs of the organization.
- As the budget permits, participates in regional, national and affinity group functions, and other conferences and workshops related to the Community Foundation’s work
- Maintains accurate record of all Board actions.

Qualifications
- Passion for the work of High Plains Heritage Foundation
- Bachelor’s Degree desired but not required.
- Minimum 5 years’ work experience.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a management or supervisory capacity, preferably with a nonprofit organization.
- Creative problem-solving capabilities.
- Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Bilingual in Spanish is desired.
- Valid Driver’s License, Vehicle Insurance, and Reliable Transportation.
